When bad things happen to you, you don't always want sympathy. Sometimes you just really need someone to pick you up and give you a kick in the pants & tell you to stop dwelling on it and get on with life. Put the past in the past and always keep your eyes on the future.
Thank you Jackie
I put a stack of storage cubes in the corner. This is for my current projects. There are 3 cubes and each of those is split into 3 smaller slots. That gives me 9 slots for projects that I have going.... Well, that wasn't enough room for my current projects. What to do, what to do.

I decided the best solution would be to finish some of them. Amazingly many of the projects were actually almost done. Some even only needed the ends woven in.

Yesterday I finished off 3 hats, a scarf and a baby sweater.

Then I finished the knitting of a sweater that I started in December of 2005. Get this! I only had a section left to knit that was 6" by 4" ??? who knows why, but it sat there forever in a big plastic bag. Now it won't fit me, I am not the same size I was in 2005, but it should fit my daughter just fine :) so now it has blocked and tomorrow I will sew it together and try to figure out how to crochet the trim ????

It will look like this when I am done:

Today I picked up a jacket I was knitting for myself. This is knit out of leftover yarn from other projects and is meant to be a big comfy bed jacket. Big it is! but it is very very warm. I finished the knitting, sewed the seams and actually put on buttons (most of them even match!)

Now I only have 9 projects left ! enough room.
Oh except the 3 pair of socks and 2 pair of gloves, an ear flap hat, and a jacket for my son Ben.
My son Tanner sometimes subs for his older brother as a bus boy at a local family owned pizza place. Thursday night he heard that the fry cook had quit so he went up to the owner and asked if he could have that job. They of course said yes so Tanner is working there 30 hours a week!!! yay tanner! Plus it looks like the DH will be going back to work in a week or so. This is fabulous news. yay Sean!

Also the 1st coat of mud is on the bathroom ceiling and walls. Progress.

Well, I should say that the drywall is up. Now it has to be finished. But progress is progress. So that's good, but.... to every yin there is a yang.

Our kitchen sink drain is backed up. This happens every once & a while because no one in my family understands the concept of scraping dishes before putting them in the sink. So I assumed it was the trap. I took it off & cleaned it, no plug. So I took off all the pipes to the wall. Then I put a hanger through that pipe as far as I could. No plug. So I sent Sean up to the store to get Liquid Plumber. I followed the directions. Then I followed the directions again, Then I followed the directions again. Then I dumped the whole bottle of goop down the drain. It is draining slow, too slow to wash dishes in the sink.

So I spent half an hour last night washing our dishes in the tub.

There are people who don't have a major crisis everyday. I'm not one of them.
A friend of mine and I went to St. Louis yesterday (about a 3 hr
drive) to see The Yarn Harlot. It was a book signing and as we both have
her e-books on our readers (she has a kindle, I have a nook) We had her
sign the e-readers! We were the first people to bring and e-reader to sign! I had her just sign the back of my nook. Now I think I will go to more book signings and continue the habit.

Anyway, she put us up on her blog!
The Yarn Harlot's blog:

Here is the joke she told. I wanted to remember it!

<span style="font-family: Times,"Times New Roman",serif;">A policeman was patrolling the highway and saw a minivan driving somewhat erratically so he flashed his lights. The van didn't pull over so he drove up beside it and motioned to the driver for her to pull over. He was shocked when saw what the problem was, she was knitting. He motioned again so she rolled down the window. He rolled down his window and yelled "pull over." She yelled back, "no, cardigan!"

My cat's name is Precious. And he really is! He sleeps with his head on my pillow and he loves me. I have 6 children and 2 grandchildren - but I have more pictures on my phone of my cat than I do my human family!

Precious is sick and I had to take him to the Vet. I'm sure he will recover, but he needed a shot and some medicine.

Precious is not a brave kitty. In fact he is a big scaredy cat. He acts all brave, but then hides his head under my arm or some other good hiding place, like under the corner seat in the Vet's office.
The other people who live here do not live alone. I really do love my family, I just want to look at life through my own eyes for a while. Things like waking up on a Sunday morning and thinking, what would I do for the day if no one had any demands on my time. What is an entire day to myself like?

I wake up. It's a beautiful sunny day and a gentle cool breeze moves the curtains. I am surrounded by big fluffy pillows and a downy comforter. On the floor, on the rug next to my bed, are my hand knit slippers. Hanging on the wall is my robe. The coffee is brewing already because my evening routine was completely uninterrupted and I had the forethought to set the brewing timer on the machine. I hop into my pristine shower, dry off with a clean towel that has never been left lying on the floor.

After getting dressed, I go to the kitchen. I open the cabinet door (which was closed) and I select my favorite cup (which is clean). I pour myself a cup of coffee, add cream and enjoy my morning. I listen to music I enjoy. - Then I hear a loud pop! and my eyes open.....

oops never mind, that was a dream, I'm awake now and I have to go. I need to do a load of laundry so I have a clean towel to take a <strike>shower </strike> no, a bath (there is no shower). then I have to search for a cup in the kid's rooms and wash it before I can make coffee. hopefully no one used all the cream on their cereal.

Mariehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04964558889908185882noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1701063918783280583.post-68127318816287297812011-09-24T14:57:00.005-05:002011-09-24T14:57:31.621-05:00More about the bathroomswell, no shower yet. The plumbers were here today and moved the drain to match the shower install. But, due to the small size of our bathroom , they cannot put the shower together and then take it in the bathroom and they can't put it together in the bathroom due to the sloping ceiling in there. They started talking about just not using that shower stall and just putting in tile and build the shower in there.

I went in and looked at the problem and thought it would work if they took out the sink and the toilet, then put the shower together in that place, then move the stall over to the base. They looked and thought, and hey yes, that would work.

Now the problem is that they can't take that toilet out until the toilet is installed in the main floor bathroom. And... in order to install that toilet, the walls need to be taped & mudded, and the plumber did not bring his taping tools.

So, they are not coming tomorrow, maybe Monday night.

I want to take a shower!

My daughter and granddaughter moved in. (that's not bad, it's just the reason they moved in that's bad)

My son had to leave his job.

My son's girlfriend's car broke down, and while my daughter was picking her up from work in my car, they ran out of gas.

My car started making a horrible grinding noise when I start it.

Some of the people who live in my house are very cranky. (uhhmm)

My house is messier than usual because the bathrooms are both being worked on.

Well the bathrooms are not being worked on because the plumber has not shown up for over a week. So there is no toilet or sink in one bathroom, and there is no shower in the other bathroom. and there is drywall and plaster dust everywhere.

But.... I cleaned my wool room and this is where I am spending all my time.
I have decided that the cleaning can never be "done" so each time I try to get "done" I fail, but I can make things better. So -
There is no "done", there is only "better"
This caused the downstairs bathroom ceiling and walls to fall in. After a month of the guy coming and measuring they finally showed up yesterday to get something done. It's my father-in-law who is doing most of the work though. But, we will have 2 nice bathrooms when they are done. There will be new toilets in both bathrooms and a new sink and vanity for the main floor. We have a new shower stall to put in the upstairs bathroom and they are putting a shower in the main floor bathroom for the tub.
Next I am going to get a door for the stairway. The upstairs will be adults and orange cats only! The kids, dog and tuxedo cats are confined to the main floor.

This morning I actually had to put on a sweater! I am soooooo happy. I do not enjoy summer. I hate the heat and no one wants to see me in a halter top - trust me!

So hurry up fall and winter. Come and stay for a while.Mariehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04964558889908185882noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1701063918783280583.post-86575618013843367992011-08-08T15:36:00.000-05:002011-08-08T15:36:14.573-05:00Planner / Journal

So I am mostly a very solitary person. Not that I don't like people, well... but that's not the point.

I have found that having a very good friend is a wonderful thing. Especially a great friend who values her alone time as much as I do! This way neither of us get upset if we don't get together all the time. I am not good at keeping up a regular friend schedule!

One of my best friends ever is having a birthday this week, and I was thinking about her & how much her friendship means to me.

She makes me feel younger, hopeful and confident. I lost part of my life in the last few years. She has made me feel like I could find it again.Mariehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04964558889908185882noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1701063918783280583.post-68657345307999615652011-08-02T11:21:00.001-05:002011-08-02T11:22:37.054-05:00Feeling better, well emotionally at least

I was pretty down after the diagnosis. Then the occupational therapy was shocking. Then the results of the MRI (erosions confirmed) was just the last straw. On top of everything, I was still not on any treatment. I felt like I was in limbo.

Yesterday, though, I started methotrexate. I am on half the maximum dose for 2 weeks then I bump up to the max (20mg). This is taken once a week, so I decided Monday night would be my dose, then all day Tuesday I can rest.

I finally picked up my knitting last night. I hadn't knitted since Thursday's knit night. I am working on a short sleeve tee. I can't wait to wear it. I used Elizabeth Zimmerman's percentage raglan as the main pattern, but I adapted the shape using the techniques in Big Girl Knits. Waist shaping and bust darts along with lower rounded neckline. (not too low though!)Mariehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04964558889908185882noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1701063918783280583.post-69847074820863044102011-07-29T07:22:00.000-05:002011-07-29T07:22:26.220-05:00Therapy updateI saw the occupational therapist yesterday. He is very thorough. I cannot say enough about OSFs therapist's professionalism and knowledge. I had a bad experience at Methodist's physical therapy so I am very glad that this will be a good one.

The only thing is... Occupational therapy was so depressing. They gave me a foam tube for me to put my silverware in to hold it while I eat. " don't grasp anything between your index finger and thumb. uh... how am I going to knit?

I know that being worried about knitting, of all things, sounds very trivial, but knitting is a huge part of my life. It is my therapy, social outlet and my passion. It makes me happy.

My goal with RA is... what ever I need to do to keep knitting.

I have a wonderful friend who told me that she would duct tape the needles to my hands and hold my hands and we will knit together. I am not a tearful person, but that about did me in :)Mariehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04964558889908185882noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1701063918783280583.post-81970219111285292022011-07-27T17:26:00.000-05:002011-07-27T17:26:02.874-05:00PTI had my first Physical Therapy appointment today. I am so glad. I went to PT at another hospital a few years ago and the therapist just blabbed on about her boyfriend the whole time. The therapist I have now is great. He was very thorough and I really think I'll be feeling much better. He can't do anything about my joints or the RA, but he said his goal was to strengthen my muscles so that my joints don't do all the work.

Tomorrow I have an appointment with Occupational Therapy. I have no idea what that will be like, but I'll post about it after.

Still waiting for the results of the MRI I had last Friday on my hand. I feel like I'm in Limbo.Mariehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04964558889908185882noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1701063918783280583.post-45204158381679271472011-07-22T11:48:00.000-05:002011-07-22T11:48:42.883-05:00We are living in Hell!

We don't have central air. we have a window unit in the living room and one in each of the bedrooms. its a big old house though and the upstairs hall is like a wet sauna. There have been heat advisories all week. My dishes are piling up, I haven't cooked in a week, and I can't care. I am sitting in my room in front of the air conditioner and knitting.Mariehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04964558889908185882noreply@blogger.com0
